B2B service provider Mourik has the ambition to be a digital frontrunner in all markets in which it operates. Driven by this ambition, the organisation launched a broad digital transformation programme in which a large part of its business processes is being digitised using Mendix low-code.
The initial phase of this transformation has been successfully completed and the first applications are now in use. Building on this foundation, Mourik continues to advance its digital transformation, with the aim of structurally strengthening the organisation’s innovation capability and competitive position.

The best and brightest solutions
Mourik, based in Groot-Ammers, is a Dutch family-owned company with a history spanning more than 90 years and approximately 2,000 employees. The organisation consists of Mourik Infra, Mourik Industry, Mourik Belgium and Mourik Global. Mourik Infra focuses on infrastructure projects such as dike reinforcement and the maintenance of roads and bridges. Mourik Industry specialises in industrial cleaning, maintenance and renovation. Mourik Belgium carries out similar activities for the Belgian market, while Mourik Global serves clients across Europe and beyond.
With the ambition to gain deeper insights into data and use this information more effectively, Mourik aims to be a leader in the field of IT. In this context, IT plays a key role in supporting the organisation’s broader objective: delivering smart, future-ready solutions for its clients.
Jaap van der Welle, CIO at Mourik, explains:
“You don’t become a digital frontrunner by chance. That’s why we carefully considered our approach first. For a long time, many of our complex business processes were handled on paper or in Excel. This led to differences in working methods and made efficient operations difficult. To change this, we decided that a digital layer across our entire IT landscape was needed. This allows us to work in a standardised way across Mourik and gives us better insight into our data. Improving the measurability of our projects was also an important requirement. After careful evaluation, low-code proved to be the best way to achieve these objectives.”
Finding the right partner
Mourik was looking for an approachable, robust low-code platform. Mendix was chosen because of its extensive functionality and good reputation in the market. The next step was to find the right partner. Stef Koomans, low-code program manager At Mourik: “We talked to several suppliers. Only with Ciphix did we feel that they really looked beyond just building applications. Ciphix clearly thought more broadly and could also support us with questions such as: how to put together the right team, how best to set up the application infrastructure and how to get the applications to the business. We therefore chose them because we were convinced that they had the best partner in achieving our digital ambitions.”
The first projects for digitisation
The digitisation process started with the development of a few small applications at Mourik. Take Traffic & more, for example, an application for Mourik Infra and its customers that gives work planners central insight into the road closures to be placed around an infrastructure project. As a result, planners can now more easily issue work orders to operational staff and spend less time on administration. Currently, some forty office staff are already working with the app. In time, executive staff will also start using it to check their work assignments and time sheets.
In addition, Ciphix launched an “Order to Cash” application for Mourik Industry. This application digitizes the entire process from order to invoicing in all branches and is linked to the ERP system. This creates more insight into the orders issued, hours, materials needed, work in progress and outstanding amounts.

Positive initial results
Mourik is satisfied with the first phase of the digitisation project. Jaap: “I am really impressed with the impact we have already been able to make in just a few months. We are already benefiting enormously from the fact that we can now record data unambiguously in our organization. We have also embraced the ‘agile’ way of working faster than expected. The first version of an application was always shared quickly because of this way of working. In this way, the business became directly involved. This also created something much more important: enthusiasm about what you can achieve with digitisation. We are perhaps most pleased with that.”
Ciphix: “We are very pleased that Mourik has chosen Ciphix. We are convinced that with our knowledge of digitizing business processes with Mendix low-code we will fully realize the objectives. This will reduce overhead costs in the future and further reduce margin pressure.”
Developing your own applications in the future
Stef: “We are very happy that we have chosen Mendix low-code to realize our digital ambitions. We can already see that our innovation power has improved significantly and we have many more applications planned for the coming period. In the coming period the ‘Order to Cash’ application will be further completed and several other applications will be built such as a time registration app and an app for reporting security incidents.”
Eventually, the IT department wants to develop applications itself. In this way, new solutions will have an even shorter time-to-market and IT will become even more employable as a strategic tool to provide the best solutions to Mourik’s customers.
