Operational remote monitoring
Achieve ultimate efficiency: Transform maritime processes with advanced digital solutions and real-time monitoring.
Reason
The maritime industry faces unprecedented challenges due to changes in other sectors, integration of supply chains and international regulations. Traditional manual controls in complex production lines are time-consuming and do not provide sufficient grip on quality and insight, something many companies in the industry struggle with. The importance of digitally effectively cooperating (unmanned) ships and systems for maritime safety and security is crucial to stay ahead of the competition and future-proof the industry. Many of these issues can be solved with good technology.

All data collected in one system - Preventive signaling
Prevent problems - Control of after sales

Approach
Ciphix has developed a 4-step approach to define the right software solutions:
- Discovery;
- Define;
- Designs;
- Do.
The first step starts with properly mapping the user journey. What does the customer want and what do they need? Getting this journey right results in a high probability of user acceptance. Switching from a familiar system to a new digital system can be exciting. But if the system is completely set up to meet the user’s needs, the transition is easy.
In addition to insight, speed is crucial for innovation; products must be brought to market quickly and continuously improved. The development platform and phased approach ensured that a prototype was built in one week, which could be validated with customers. After four sprints, the first minimum viable product (MVP) was ready, after which customers asked for additional functionality. This feedback was incorporated immediately, which increased support for the solution and accelerated implementation.
The solution
Operational Technology (OT) talks in different data than Information Techology (IT), so these systems fundamentally communicate poorly with each other. Ciphix uses IoT (Internet of Things) to close this gap. IoT translates to a single platform where all data can be read.
Within weeks, Ciphix developed a responsive web app for mobile use that gives users real-time access to vessel and project operational parameters. These parameters combine sensor data from the vessel with manual input from the vessel operator and are aggregated into a daily report for the owner. The app is continuously being improved, with practical experience being crucial for optimisations.
Mendix -the market-leading Low-Code platform- enabled rapid development of multi device pages by using off-the-shelf widgets for quick data viewing. Integrations with other systems via REST APIs let the team focus on what and why to build, rather than how.

The result
The result in divisible into values: technical and business.
The technical value is the time-to-market. Ciphix was able to create a workable prototype within a few weeks. This prototype, or MVP, is now being used in the field to gather feedback from real users.
The business value is that companies are able to outpace their competitors by becoming a more service-oriented provider and better advise and support their customers based on newly collected data.
- Reduced time to market
Interactive sprints enable innovation in weeks - Better advice
Digitisation provides faster and more insight into usage data and areas for improvement - Higher customer engagement
Customer validation and co-creation create support and better apps
