Mental Care Group chooses Ciphix to build three new care portals

Ciphix develops new employee health portal for Mental Care Group

Ciphix, a specialist in software solutions for digitising and optimising business processes, has developed a new employee health portal for healthcare provider Mental Care Group (MCG). Vitalmindz is the first of three portals—designed for clients, client employees, and practitioners—to be built with Low-Code technology. These portals offer self-help options for clients, enable remote care, and reduce the administrative burden for practitioners, contributing to more efficient and accessible mental healthcare.

The Vitalmindz portal helps employers support their staff in improving vitality and preventing absenteeism through various e-health modules, webinars, and online coaching sessions. A client portal and a practitioner portal will follow soon. Annually, these portals will serve approximately 80,000 clients and 2,000 practitioners.

Agile technology as the foundation

MCG had two key requirements for the portals: the technology needed to be agile to adapt quickly to the ever-changing healthcare landscape, and the portals had to be user-friendly for a diverse audience, from young children to the elderly. As no existing software met these criteria, MCG chose to develop the portals using Mendix low-code.

Gerbrand van de Beek, chief digital officer at MCG: “Low-code is often used for internal business processes and applications, whereas our portals needed to be suitable for clients. This meant meeting high usability and accessibility standards, including considerations for colour blindness. We asked Ciphix to develop the Vitalmindz portal as a test case for low-code, based on a design from an external agency. They delivered it to our full satisfaction—on time and within budget—after which we began collaborating on the other portals as well.”

Henry Kraaijenbos, partner at Ciphix: “MCG is a forward-thinking healthcare organisation with the vision and ambition needed to tackle major challenges in healthcare. Their choice to implement their digital strategy with low-code is a great example of this. The development of these three portals, along with the experience and expertise gained through our collaboration, will help MCG provide more accessible and efficiently organised care. Additionally, we are working together throughout and beyond this project to apply our insights and support other healthcare organisations facing similar challenges.”

Reusing components saves significant time

Although the three portals cater to different user groups, they share overlapping functionalities, such as e-health modules and content management. By using Mendix low-code, these functionalities can be easily reused, saving significant development time. Additionally, as the platform meets essential security standards by default, it was easier to implement features for remote care, such as chat and video consultations with practitioners. These functionalities are often difficult to introduce due to strict security and privacy regulations in healthcare.
